Hard to believe it's been four years already. It's so easy to "Never Forget." It's a part of this country and of everyday life now. We remember...and we do a lot of things differently now. It is to be expected.
I have friends and relatives who live near New York, and knew people who were in the city and knew some who were lost. One relative watched the towers fall from a distance away. How could we ever forget?
I have a Sterling engraved pendent that I've worn since 10/2001. It's my way of keeping September 11 and all the victims and all the heroes and their friends and families close, in a tangible way.
Our task to honor those we lost is to carry their best qualities, and the memories of them as well, forward with us in our daily lives. They still live through us and through our thoughts and actions... They will always be a part of us, even if we didn't know any one of them personally.
For the victims and for the families and friends, I say Special Prayers... |

I wonder how September 11 this year felt to everyone else. To me, it was again a time to be by myself and to reflect. I watched several shows, including memorial services and newscasts. As well as the ringing of bells, reading of names, and placing of flowers, it was as if the news media wanted to make it as much 9/11/01 as 9/11/06. Five years is a milestone. It seems the o's and 5's always are. It did somehow almost seem a little closer to the event than previous years.
I'm glad we have our memorial traditions. They help us move forward and heal. We are still healing... I hope we never forget all those we lost and all those who helped and/or lost family and friends that day and in the days that followed. It is their day of remembrance, and it is ours, too, as Americans, and as citizens of the world.
On the 5th anniversary of the day itself, I was partially immobilized. I didn't talk much or write about the events of the day. They were too much all around me to do so. I do so now, as it is still very much on my mind, and because it is important to mark this, yet another anniversary. My thanks to those who took part in the work then and to those who are still fighting for us now. My condolences to those who suffered losses. |
