|
|
In the last few days, I read an article about the way some with PTSD in our Army have been treated. I have heard so many times that it is hte same way in Law Enforcement. I say to you what I said to the Soldiers.
It is intolerable to me to hear LEO's called weak or weak-minded when they are suffering from a wound such as PTSD. If you have PTSD, know that you are not weak. You have the right to ask for and receive treatment just as someone with a broken bone has the right to treatment.
Know that although you are not understood by some, you are by others. You are cared about. You are important. By serving in Law Enforcement, you have already done more than most others have or will ever do.
With PTSD, often you do not feel the love or appreciation that is around you. Worse yet, some of you probably have been taunted for being in Law Enforcement, and for having PTSD. You are not the problem. Those that taunt you are.
It is so important that you have someone to talk with about how you feel and what you have experienced. If ever you wish to talk, feel free to email aneagle@aneaglescharms.com Sometimes the distance and anonymity make it easier. You do not have to go through this alone.
The first step is to start talking. Soon you'll find that the spinning starts to slow down. You can feel better and you can get back in control. It takes work, but you are used to wroking in tough situations. Things can improve for you, and you can have a good, productive life again. |
